Active Chapter is Role Model for Campus

The actives have been hard at work establishing Phi Psi as role models on DePauw’s campus.

As a chapter, the brothers have completed over 500 hours of community service and campus philanthropy events. Members have served community by:

• Coaching local youth soccer and basketball teams

• Volunteering at Special Olympics

• Visiting local retirement communities and senior centers

• Tutoring DePauw Students

• Volunteering at Goodwill

• Washing fire trucks

The chapter also organized two philanthropy events. Pull for the Kids was a campus tug of war tournament. They raised $1,200 to subsidize a summer camp at Greencastle Parks and Rec. During Top Cooler we invited various groups on campus decorate and donate a cooler to be auctioned off. $1,600 was raised for the Boys and Girls Club of Indianapolis.

Concerning academics, the actives earned a GPA of 3.14/4.0, ranking them third out of 10 DePauw Fraternities. They even qualified for $4,500 in scholarship money from Phi Psi National.

We would like to take this time to highlight soon-to-be graduate, Giles “Chip” Locke, from Rochester, MN. He is the son of Rick Locke, Phi Psi Indiana Alpha class of ’83 and is a Computer Science Major with Biochemistry minor. Chip was past Chapter President and Vice President and is current Sergeant at Arms. He was also on the IFC Executive Board as its Treasurer. He served on the House Executive Board and Governing Board for all semesters. Academically, Chip is a DePauw Rector Scholar, is in the Computer Science Dept. Honors Society, and made Dean’s List every semester. He spent last January teaching CPR to High School students for Start the Heart Foundation, which is run by Indiana Alpha alum, Dr. William Dillon ’84.

Athletics are another shining point for Indiana Alpha. The chapter was the football champions and had two teams make it to the Final Four in basketball. Our chapter membership includes captains of basketball, football, lacrosse, golf and tennis. All starting five players on the varsity basketball team this past season were chapter members. The team won the conference championship to earn a trip to the national tournament.
